Windows going in
We have finally started to put our windows in. It's all rather a long story and one I'd rather forget, but in summary - the window company made a bit of a balls up on a few fronts. Firstly, some of the units were damaged after they fell over in the truck. The external seals on the moving windows were felt - not the rubber I had insisted on. Some of the bars inbetween the panes of glass were the wrong colour. And six windows were missing. But worst of all - due to a cock up somewhere down the line, every single window was too big.
When we submitted sizes, these were the sizes of the actual openings - and 20mm was to be deducted from this which allowed the units to be installed, adjusted and critically - sealed properly.
Anyway, I'll not bore with the details. We reached a compromise with the supplier whereby we would re-engineer each window opening to make them fit. Not ideal - not only a lot of work for us, but it does slightly compromise the design slightly in terms of removing cold bridges, but I think the solution I came up with is acceptable.
Normally on site there are just the two of us - and the windows are very heavy. We used trolleys to move them about inside, and an electric hoist clamped to the roof beams to actually fit the units.
We have gotten into a routine and have fitted most of the windows we have - bar the 250kg one!
