Garage update - for Rosemary.

So a week later and the garage is excavated and ready for the slab to be laid for the floor. All in, 40 tipper loads were needed to remove the spoil, which was mainly rock.

Before the full excavation, we had arranged delivery of materials for the hard landscaping round the house which will be complete later in the summer - 48tons of hardcore, 5tons of ballast, 8 tons of gravel and 12 pallets of Granite slabs. Once the garage had been excavated there would have been no option to get a machine to bring it up and everything mentioned would have had to be handballed....

Anyway, some more pictures of the works  slab should be giong down mid June and walls beginning later in June.

Batcave construction begins

It's not been mentioned much before but we have planning permission for a large garage with the plans, and we have put off building it due to the base being very rocky.

Until now...

With our moving in date approaching much earlier than we had planned, we decided to make a start on the garage and try get it completed over the summer rather than have a finished house but still undertaking substantial building works.

The garage is pretty much underground, and accessed from the roadside. It will be large enough for 4 cars and high enough to have a car lift inside. The walls will be 200mm Polarwall ICF again and the roof will be highly insulated, and sit almost level with the driveway, meaning it will be pretty much invisible from the house.

To excavate the base, Caskie Ltd have been contracted and have brought a 30t machine onsite with a rather large hydraulic pecker.

Once the base is laid, Caskie will lay the reinforced ground bearing slab and we will finish the walls and roof as time and money permits.

As you can see from the pictures, there is a LOT of rock to be excavated, but that helps us as it means less disruption to the area and there is less risk of soil movement.
Straight from another demolition job
